Abstract
Mary Magdalene is undoubtedly a rather enigmatic figure, as evidenced by the multitude of opinions on her origins, history and presence in the earthly life of Jesus Christ. At the same time, however, she is a very important saint, who has been venerated by crowds of the faithful for centuries. However, not everyone does it in the same way, because different rites place different accents, exposing only a certain dimension of the life of this saint. In this publication, the Roman and Spanish-Mozarabic rites were analysed in order to outline the general image of this saint, presented by the liturgical texts of the two Western liturgies, based on the forms of the celebration in honour of St. Mary Magdalene in both rites. For this purpose, the article was divided into three parts. The first part analysed the prayers of the Spanish-Mozarabic rite, showing the sources of the orations of this liturgy. The second chapter concerned the same, but in relation to the Roman rite. The third part is devoted to showing the theological dimension of these prayers, while at the same time showing the differences related to the different distribution of accents in the cult of St. Mary of Magdala. The analytical method was used, taking into account also the historical-literary method. Thanks to this, the main conclusion of the analysis is the observation that the image of Mary Magdalene in the Hispano-Mozarabic form concerns the aspect of her conversion and the experience of God’s mercy, while the Roman prayers focus mainly on the issue of her participation in the Paschal mystery of the Savior. Keywords:
