Abstract

The castle church in Malbork was the main place of liturgical celebrations for the Teutonic Order in the Middle Ages. In modern times, it was handed over to the Jesuits, who furnished the temple with Baroque and late Baroque equipment. After their dissolution, the temple became a branch of the town church. The renovation carried out by Konrad Steinbrecht from 1882 resulted in the emptying of the temple, which was to be given a medieval appearance. Its inventory from 1829 is therefore of inestimable historical value. On its basis, it is possible to reconstruct the religious life associated with this sacred building. The list of items belonging to the church included argentaria, copper, brass, iron and tin elements, liturgical vestments, cingula, antepedia, liturgical and administrative books, screens, fabric covers, liturgical undergarments and wooden objects. A large part of the equipment was unusable. Many items appeared to be scattered and incomplete (e.g. votive offerings).
