Abstract

This article explores the issue of Jesus Christ’s self-awareness in relation to His divinity, drawing on François Dreyfus OP’s Did Jesus Know He Was God?. It examines two hypothetical scenarios – Jesus’ lack of knowledge of His divinity and its gradual emergence – alongside their implications for Christian faith and the doctrine of the Council of Chalcedon (451 AD). The study demonstrates how Jesus’ self-awareness aligns with Church tradition, utilizing the Gospel of John, the historical context of first-century Judaism, miracles, and the thought of Church Fathers and modern theologians. Combining exegetical rigor with philosophical and theological depth, it provides a precise, coherent, and comprehensive exploration of this foundational mystery.
